Sandwiched between the California coastline and majestic Santa Monica Mountains, the city of Malibu is one of the most luxurious cities in Los Angeles County, and for a good reason. Malibu is a picturesque beach town that is home to dozens of A-list celebrities and some of the most renowned beaches in the county, let alone the state. The city harbors highly luxurious real estate, featuring everything from sprawling coastline estate to Spanish-style houses and towering multiple-story mansions. Nearer to the shoreline, Malibu’s commercial centers positioned around the Pacific Coast Highway provide residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and shop.
Named for the Chumash Native American phrase "Humaliwo” meaning “the surf sounds loudly”, Malibu is a highly attractive surfing spot for surfers of all skill levels. Zuma beach, the setting for the popular 90s shows Baywatch, along with County Line and Topanga Beach, all offer swells for both beginner and experienced surfers. Non-surfing residents also enjoy Malibu’s beaches, which offer plenty of opportunities to hang out and enjoy the area’s consistently beautiful weather. For those who prefer land over sea, inland Malibu offers easy access to a handful of beautiful canyons and foothills nestled within the eastern face of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Malibu’s relatively small and affluent population of about 13,000 residents enjoy a lavish, healthy, and active lifestyle. Southern California’s consistently warm weather means locals can spend more of their days outdoors, contributing to a culture that emphasizes the virtues of fitness and exercise. Malibu, especially given its proximity to the ocean and to the Santa Monica Mountains, offers residents plenty of opportunity for activity. Furthermore, Malibu has some of the finest upscale dining and shopping venues. Despite its modest-sounding name, the city’s largest mall, Malibu Country Mart, has many high-end boutiques, jewelers, and restaurants.

While Malibu is largely residential, the city offers plenty of fine dining and shopping experiences. Higher-end Malibu dining staples include spots like Moonshadows Malibu, offering diners first-rate American fare with amazing ocean views. Nobu Malibu, aside from its famous sushi, provides dining overlooking the Malibu Pier. While there are a number of high-end boutiques dotting the Pacific Coast Highway throughout Malibu, Malibu Country Mart, near Malibu Lagoon State Beach, offers the widest selection of shopping opportunities in the city.

Malibu’s convenient location between the California coast and Santa Monica Mountains ensures there is no shortage of activities for residents to partake in. Beautiful beaches, like Zuma Beach and Malibu Lagoon, provide plenty of swimming, sunbathing, and surfing opportunities. The Santa Monica Mountains offer dozens of hiking and walking trails.
